Hello ladies!
I just recently published my 100th post so I want to take a moment to thank everyone for reading my blog and supporting me. Makeup was always a hobby for me, but now I've found a way to channel that creativity and turn it into something. It started as a personal record of all the makeup looks I was doing at the time and it's blossomed into something more. I want to show you that you don't have to be an expert to pull together a look. I want to show you that you are beautiful no matter what. I want to give you, my lovely readers, my honest and truthful opinion on makeup products, brands, etc. I want you to experience how much fun doing makeup can be. When you feel beautiful, you feel confident, and you can rule the world.
Also, I've moved the Facebook Like gadget for my Facebook Page onto the sidebar instead of at the bottom of every post. I finally figured out how to do it. Gosh I'm so horrible with configuring blogspot to look pretty.
So today's post isn't specifically about makeup. It's about the tools we use to put our makeup on, our trusty brushes! Oh what would we do without our brushes?? Oh, the horror! To be honest, I love my makeup brushes. They make doing the job that much easier. But sometimes, it is okay to use your fingers. I know I do.
I'll be telling you all about my favorite brushes and I know it's hard for me to stay down to 10. I'll tell you which brush and brand they are and why I like it so much. These are also staple brushes that every glamour girl should own, whether they are name brand or drugstore, you need a good set of brushes.
I use mostly MAC and Sephora Pro brushes along with a couple of others. The Sephora Pro brushes are the older generation brushes, the ones with the grey handles. They can't be purchased anymore, you can only get the new version so I will list the newer version of the brushes that I use.
This isn't in any particular order, because I do use most of these everyday and they are all necessary brushes to create a flawless look
1. MAC 217 - Blending Brush
This brush is #1 because it is extremely versatile. It's main use is to be used as a blending brush, so that means blending out foundation, like for example for a smokey effect or to blend out harsh lines. You can also use it to put shadow on the lid. I also hear of people using it to put on concealer and that it applies really well. I've also used it to apply contour down the sides of my nose. Honestly, this brush is great. It does so many things that I went and bought myself a spare, and it's my first spare brush of the same kind ever. You definitely want to have this brush in your kit, whether to do makeup professionally or for your own personal kit.
2. MAC 239 - Eye Shader Brush
This brush is fantastic for packing color onto the lid. It really does a great job of saturating the lid with color. You can also use this brush for pressing pigments onto your lid. This is the brush you need for really loading color on like crazy. I also recommend getting this brush. I used to use the Sephora Pro Medium Shadow Brush and I like this one so much more.
3. MAC 219 - Pencil Brush
This brush is great for smudging out eyeliner to create a smokey effect. I also use it to apply shadow to my lower lashline for a smokey effect. Since the bristles are nice and stiff, it's perfect for drawing in a cut-crease and smudging it out. A similar brush is the Sephora Pro Smokey Eye Brush, but it is less dense than the MAC one and it comes to a point. This brush isn't necessary for a personal kit, but I would recommend it if you are a fan of smokey eyes and/or cut-creases.
4. Stila #28 Smudgepot Brush
This double-ended brush is my favorite gel eyeliner brush of all time. On one end you have a smudge brush, the MAC 214 is a good alternative, and on the other end you have a liner brush, the MAC 209 being an alternative to that. I love using this type of brush to apply my gel eyeliner, like my MAC Fluidlines. I feel like it does a very precise job, more so than an angled liner brush. And the smudge brush on the other end comes in handy for doing a smokey eye! I also use it to apply a touch of highlight to the inner corners of the eye. I recommend getting this brush, it makes eyeliner application such a breeze!
5. Sephora Pro #10 Crease Brush
I personally don't use this brush in my crease because it's a little too big (I have small eyes and not a whole lot of space between my crease and my eyebrow) so I use this to apply my highlight shade on my eyes instead. For a sheerer highlight, this brush works perfectly and it blends everything out nicely. A similar brush is MAC 224. I recommend getting this brush because it does come in handy either for the crease or for a highlight.
6. Sephora Pro #44 Stippling Brush
I love this brush for applying flawless foundation. By using a stippling motion, you don't get the streaks that you would normally get using a standard foundation brush. This gives you a much more airbrushed looking finish and you use less product than if you used the standard brush. This is my go-to foundation brush, I use it daily. I cannot think of a better foundation brush than this one (well, maybe MAC but I haven't tried theirs yet!). I definitely recommend getting this brush, it will make foundation application a total breeze!
7. MAC 168 Large Angled Contour Brush
This is a great brush for applying powder contour and bronzer. It's not as large as the name suggests, it's quite small actually. It fits in the hollows of the cheeks perfectly and it's so easy to contour with this brush. It really makes application super easy and fast. It's the best contouring brush ever. If you're into bronzer and contouring, definitely get this brush. You could also use it to apply blush if you wanted to.
8. Too Faced Powder Pouf Brush
This brush is so pretty and so soft. It's perfect for applying powder blush to the cheeks and blending it into the contour. It applies very well and is really precise. I also use it to apply highlight powder onto the cheekbones. I recommend getting this brush or the MAC Contour Brush, whichever brush you feel most comfortable with and that suits your needs.
9. Makeup Forever HD Kabuki Brush
This is such a super soft and dense brush, making it perfect to apply powder to the face. It does a great job of applying powder evenly and thoroughly all over the face. It's also fantastic for blending out harsh lines on the face and for blending out colors (like sheering them a bit) and also for blending two colors together so they seemlessly transition from one into the other. I definitely recommend getting this brush, or a kabuki in general, they are way more than just powder brushes.
10. Sephora Pro #22 Angled Liner Brush
Last but not least every girl needs an angled liner brush. Whether it's to apply gel liner, powder as an eyeliner or applying color to your brows, you'll most likely use it for something. I also use it to define a cut-crease so that you get a super precise line. Everyone needs this brush in their kit. The MAC 266 is a good alternative to this brush.
Here are a few bonuses:
11. Sephora Pro #81 Lip Brush
I don't often use lip brushes on myself personally, but if you have a lipgloss palette where you need to use a brush, this is it. For your purse makeup kit, get the MAC 316, which has a cover included with it so you won't have to worry about it getting your purse all dirty. Again, it's not a necessary brush unless you love lipstick and lipgloss palettes.
12. Sephora Pro #45 Concealer Brush
I like using a concealer brush, but it's not the end of the world if you don't. You can use the MAC 217 or your fingers. But if you do like using a brush, it's super precise and gets into the nooks and crannies of your inner eye. It's also great for highlighting around your brows and your lips. I would recommend getting this.
So these are the main brushes that you need for your personal brush collection. Of course, I'm not telling you to go out and buy every single brush on this list. Over time, you will accumulate them. I find that the best way to start out a brush collection is to buy one or two brush sets. Right now is the best time to buy because many brands put out a lot of brush sets during the holiday season. Your best bet is buying either a MAC or Sephora brush set. I recommend buying your eye and face brush sets separately because you get more and you don't end up with doubles when you're just starting your set.
I don't want to tell you which brushes you should buy first, everyone has different tastes and styles of putting on makeup. Buy whichever brushes you feel that you need the most. The best quality brush sets on Sephora's site start at around 70$CAD. There's a lot to choose from, so just ask Santa for your favorite one. For the longest time I was using a Sephora Collection Travel Brush set with my trusty MAC 217. For at least 2 years I would look at this amazing brush set on Sephora's website. It was their Pro brush set. 15 brushes and a makeup belt. 360$CAD. I knew I would never get it at that price. Then something awesome happened. Sephora decided to revamp their Pro Brush line and release a newer edition. So the price went down to 270$CAD, then to 180$CAD and then finally to 100$CAD which I of course had to jump on and lucky I did because the day after I placed my order, they were forever sold out. So be patient. It might take a while to get your brush set together and get some good deals, but you'll be so happy when you finally do get it.
What is your all-time favorite brush? What is your favorite brand for makeup brushes?

Empties & Extras #3
Hello glamour girlies!!
It's time for another edition of Extras & Empties. I have to say that I haven't really been collecting any Extras lately. I usually end up having a bunch when I buy sets, but I've been buying more individual items lately. There's no particular reason behind that. I'll be linking my very first Empties & Extras post where I go through ALL of the makeup and skincare extras that are hiding in my drawer. It hasn't changed much.
For empties, I've got a lot hiding in my drawer and I want to get rid of them and get some space back haha. Most of them are skincare items again, but I do have a few makeup and even fragrance items. You'll have to read on to see what I've used up and if I recommend it or not. Let me know if you want me to only show my makeup empties, as I feel that the skincare ones are getting a little repetitive because, let's face it, I've been using the same stuff for ages. Comment below what you think.
Also, let me know if you like these kinds of posts. I always thought they were interesting, seeing what people used the most and seeing the extras they've been stockpiling.
Now time for today's topic!
Extras & Empties #3
The Empties
Body Shop
Seaweed Pore Perfector X 2
Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion X 2
The Extras
As I said, all my extras are honestly all the same stuff I posted in my very first Empties & Extras post. I honestly haven't been hoarding anymore stuff, I only have like 2 new things, which isn't much to show off, since they're both minies anyway. Take a look at my first post for all the stuff I'm hoarding.
Empties & Extras #1
Thanks for reading and again, I hope you enjoyed today's post and looking into my garbage! haha. I hope it was cool to take a look at my used up products. There's certainly a pattern, as I keep using the same products over and over again. What are your holy grail products that you use up time after time again? Let me know what they are!
In the very near future I will show you my new Too Faced Christmas 2013 item!! Gahhh so stoked about getting it. I also prepared that French Manicure post, finally! I was going to do it tonight but I got class in the morning and it's seriously getting late, so maybe double post tomorrow.

Extras & Empties #3
The Empties
Body Shop
Seaweed Pore Perfector X 2
A few months ago I tweaked my skincare routine. I took out some Tea Tree products I thought weren't working or could react with my skin better, and opted for the Seaweed line, which I heard could be used in conjunction with the Tea Tree line. I'm not sure if these pore minimizing products actually work. I'm going to have to say that I'm not really sure on this one. I can't tell if it's a combination of all my skincare products helping my skin not if this particular product is helping and how much. Will I buy it again? I have a few stored up, but I don't think I will buy anymore when they are done. I'm trying to find a skincare routine that is better than the one I currently have.
Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion X 2
This is one product that I'm absolutely sure helps my skin. I've been using it since I was a teenager. You can see the difference the next morning. It helps for scaring, redness, acne, pimples, you name it. It clears my entire face. This is one product I'll always recommend because it's fantastic. This will help your skin so so much. I'll always continue to buy these.
Tee Tree Skin Clearing Toner
The toner is pretty good I'd say. Obviously I haven't noticed anything obvious, but it does help to cleanse the last bits of makeup off my face that I've somehow missed. A girl always needs a good toner to help restore her face's pH balance back to normal. I'd recommend this product. Currently, I'm trying out a couple different toners just to see, though I have quite a few of these in my drawer. Hoarder much.
Tea Tree Face Mask
I've been using this mask for a little while now and it's been pretty helpful in clearing up my skin. It's a green mask that you wash off after 15 mins. It cools your face as well and I always notice that my skin looks a lot clearer the next day after using this. I would definitely recommend this mask to a friend. You know I hoard my skincare, but I have been trying out Boscia's skincare stuff lately so more on that later.
Seaweed Mattifying Moisture Lotion SPF 15
I recently switched from the Tea Tree Lotion to the Seaweed Lotion because the tea tree one was making my cheeks just a little bit too dry. I switched to this and it's pretty good. My cheeks aren't as dry anymore so it seems to be hydrating my skin pretty well. The only thing I don't like is how it goes on white. It mooshes with the rest of my skincare products and looks all weird and uneven after that whole mess of products. I would recommend this product to a friend.
Coconut Body Scrub X 2
I love the Body Shop's coconut scrub. I can feel it getting all the dirt off my skin, so the dirt doesn't flake off my skin after the shower anymore. I can get really clean! Not to mention the smell of this scrub is amazing and it leaves me smelling great. I deeply recommend this product for a good ol' deep cleaning of your skin.
Sephora
Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Perfect Iron Spray
I recently tried Alterna's Heat Protecting Spray. This is the first heat protectant I've ever used. It seems pretty good, but that can be partly due to the amazing hair straightener I bought, T3 Singlepass, which is also supposed to be nice on the hair. It keeps it from frizzing out or anything weird like that while I'm straightening it. After straightening, my hair is all sleek and soft and just beautiful. Whether it's this or the straightener, something somewhere is working. I recommend this product and I also recommend people to use a heat protectant before styling their hair, as it protects it from damage due to heat.
Makeup Forever HD Powder
This is the best setting powder I've ever used. They make an awesome powder and it goes especially great with their HD Kabuki brush. It does an excellent job of setting your makeup and preparing it for blush/bronzer time. It helps to create a flawless face. I use this everyday (unless I'm testing or switching it up) because I love it. I would def def def recommend this powder!
Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray
I always thought that setting sprays were a sham for some odd reason. No clue why, just always thought it was weird. One day at Sephora I saw they were selling these minis (yeah the old ones!) for 12$ so I figured why not. I wanted to give it a try after reading about the different setting sprays by different brands. This one seemed to be a good one. And wow am I ever happy I bought it. Setting sprays actually do work and they help your makeup to last longer. I find that I don't smudge my cheeks by the end of the day (I always rest my hand on my chin/one side of my face) when using this. I'm pretty darn impressed and I always remind myself to use this if I'm having a long day. I would totally recommend this to you, and especially to someone that has long 10 hour days who still wants to look fabulous at the end of the day.
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum
Ahh I finally finished a perfume bottle. Finally. This is my very first empty perfume bottle!!!! I've reached a milestone!!! OMG CELEBRATE!!!! I traded in my high school signature scent for Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle in my early 20's. Even in my high school days, I loved this perfume. But honestly who would buy their teenage kid such an expensive thing as Chanel? Back then I always thought that Chanel was like, unbelievably expensive. Like a thousand times more expensive that Givenchy. Hah (In case you were wondering, my first signature scent, my high school one, was Givenchy's Hot Couture). I always loved the smell of Coco Mademoiselle, so I finally got it as a gift from my dad, who was on a business trip and passed by the Duty Free Shop. The Eau de Parfum has a very different smell than the Eau de Toilette so do be careful when buying and smell them both. Personally, I do not like the smell of the Eau de Toilette. I really really do not like it. The Eau de Parfum, on the other hand, smells soooo wonderful. I would definitely recommend this perfume to a friend, it's a classic!!
The Extras
As I said, all my extras are honestly all the same stuff I posted in my very first Empties & Extras post. I honestly haven't been hoarding anymore stuff, I only have like 2 new things, which isn't much to show off, since they're both minies anyway. Natural Makeup using Too Faced on my Model, Lisa!!
Hello glam girls!!
I have a special treat for you all today! Makeup on a face that isn't mine. Hah. My amazing best friend Lisa came over to my house today and we had a girly day that consisted of me doing her makeup and watching Orange is the New Black in the background. I've known Lisa since kindergarden and she's basically like a sister to me. I don't think she knows how much I appreciate her and love her and cherish our friendship. So enough sappy stuff, what about the makeup? I told her to look through all my palettes and to pick out the direction she wanted the look to go in. Secretly, I was kind of hoping for something fun, but knowing Lisa, she went for natural. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I just happen to like doing dramatic and outrageous makeup, but I know that isn't Lisa. She doesn't wear a lot of makeup to begin with so I have to start slowly with her. Taking baby steps. Lol. She wanted a look that she could wear to work and school that is natural.
She picked out Too Faced Natural Face palette, specifically the Day Look. I've already done that look, link is at the bottom. I've done the classic look as well, which you can also find at the bottom. The fashion look from the palette is on it's way. She also picked the Too Faced Secret to No Makeup Makeup. I didn't follow the cards in it and instead used it how I felt it should be used. If you want to see my post following the 3 different looks from the No Makeup Makeup palette, again, check the bottom. Those two palettes contributed to most of the look and I gotta say, she looked fantastic!! She wanted to try the Too Faced Better Than False Lashes Nylon Extension System because come on, it's just that cool. She had a lot of fun with it. I used her concealer and foundation, since I don't yet have a set of different concealer and foundation colors. We set it with MUFE HD Powder and we had primed her eyes with Too Faced Shadow Insurance and her face with Too Faced Primed and Poreless. And for lipstick, I used Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 68 Candeur.
She loved the look. It looks very effortless and classy without looking like we spent loads of time on it. I think she looks wonderful and vibrant. This is something I can see her wearing to school and work. I think she looks marvellous.
I'm listing all the products and brushes and showing pictures of everything, which is not something that I normally do. Lisa wanted me to include everything in this post so she can look back on it and decide what products she would like to purchase. There are no prices listed for the Sephora brushes, I got mine on sale as a set for a fraction of the price. The set came with 15 brushes and a makeup artist brush belt. The initial price was 360$ and I got it on sale for 100$. I literally dreamt about these brushes for years. The only reason they were put on clearance was because they launched their new Pro brush collection.
Natural Makeup using Too Faced on my model, Lisa!
Start by applying Too Faced Shadow Insurance all over the eye, from lashes to brow, using your fingers. We're using the Too Faced Natural Eye palette for this look. Take either a medium or large shadow brush (Sephora PRO 12 Large Shadow Brush) and apply Heaven all over the eye area, from your lashes all the way up to your brow, including your tear duct area. This is our base color. Now take a crease or blending brush (MAC 217 Blending Brush) and Velvet Revolver and apply it to the crease and outer V. You want to blend it in being careful not to create any harsh lines. Now take an angled liner brush (Sephora PRO 22 Angled Liner Brush) and Sexpresso and apply it to your lash line. Follow the V we created earlier and create a slight cat eye wing going up. You want it to go up so that it gives the appearance of lifting your eyes. If you slant it down, it will make your eyes look like they're drooping. You don't want that. I like to continue with the rest of the face, especially concealer, and then come back and do the bottom lid. For the bottom lid, take a smokey eye brush (Sephora PRO 24 Smokey Eye Brush) or whatever you have, like a pencil brush, and apply Velvet Revolver to your bottom lash line. You don't want to create a stark line (like we did for the top lid) but rather a smokey and blended out line. We didn't want it to be too dark, but if it's too light for you, just go in with an angled liner brush and Sexpresso. I thought the way we did it was very soft and natural looking. Lisa wanted to try out the Too Faced Better Than False Lashes mascara so I used that on her eyes. I normally do 2 coats of mascara, 1-2 coats of nylon fibers, and another 2 coats of mascara. She already has beautiful long lashes but this mascara added an extra oomph to this otherwise natural everyday look. The eyes are done, so let's get on to the rest of the face!!
We started by priming the face with Too Faced Primed and Poreless. This helps to refine pores and it creates a nice smooth canvas to work on. i find it also lessens the amount of foundation and concealer I use. After applying this to the whole face with my fingers, I applied Sephora Perfect Cover Concealer using a concealer brush (Sephora PRO 45 Concealer Brush) to her under eye circles. Then I took Sephora Instant Radiance Foundation and I applied this to her entire face using a foundation brush (Sephora PRO 47 Foundation Brush). I set the foundation and concealer using MUFE HD Powder and a kabuki brush (MUFE HD Kabuki Brush). You want to make sure you do dabbing motions and not rubbing. The point is to set the foundation on, not rub it off! Next, I started by contouring her cheeks using the bronzer from the Too Faced Secret To No Makeup Makeup Palette and a powder brush (Sephora Collection Powder Brush) because I still haven't got a contouring brush. I had her suck in her cheeks (basically do the duck face) and I used that as a guide. I followed the line from the middle of her ear down towards her upper lip. I also applied bronzer to her temples, chin, and perimeter of her face. Next I took the powder blush from the palette and using a blush brush (Too Faced Petite Pouf) I applied it to the apples of her cheek and I blended it outward and also down into the contour. You want to make sure it is well blended (same goes for the bronzer) and make sure you don't end up with any stark lines. If it's too dark, just go over it with some powder on your kabuki brush and blend it out. I used the luminizer from the face palette and I applied it to the tops of her cheekbones and the cupid's bow of her lips. I applied a bit of powder on top to reduce the shine and to make it look more natural looking. The last step is to apply a lipstick, I chose Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in 68 Candeur, which is a light pink color. I love the formula, it's very soft and hydrating, and especially nice to your chapped lips. So this is the finished look!

Thank you for reading and I hope you liked seeing me do makeup on someone that isn't me for once. I had her pick out what she wanted to do and she wanted a very natural look that she can wear to work and school. She reads my blog and liked the Too Faced products I was using, so we used that to create her natural look. I think it looks fantastic and it will make everyone turn their heads. I honestly think this looks fabulous on her.
I've done swatches of the complete palettes, along with listing pictures and prices of everything I used, including brushes, so it's easy for her and you to find the products that you need to recreate this look.
Before I leave you, I want to know what you think of the look. Would you wear this to school and work? I know I'm a big fan of Too Faced products, but what do you think of them? And what is your favorite palette from them?
Here are some links to some more looks from the Too Faced palettes I used:
